Vangelis is a blind lawyer specialising in Civil Law and a member of the Board of Directors of the Athens Bar Association. He is the founder and President of the Non-Profit Organisation “Me Alla Matia”, a Scientific Associate of the Metropolitan Bishop of Ilion, Acharnes and Petroupoli, the official Representative in Greece of the international organisation VIEWS for visually impaired youth, and a Founding Member of the Hellenic U.S. Alumni Association, the Greek association of alumni of U.S. Department of State programmes.
Among other roles, he has served as Deputy Mayor for Social Policy in the Municipality of Ilion, a member of the Health and Social Welfare Committee of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Oikos Naftou”, a public law entity responsible for the insurance and social benefits of active and retired seafarers and their families, Head of Youth of the Panhellenic Association of the Blind, a Member of the Accessibility Committee for Disabled Students at the University of Athens, and President of the Regional Sports Association for Disabled Athletes “Tyrtaios”.
